Travel Apps Have Long Way to Go

New research from the UK shows that although 17% of travel industry organizations have mobile apps, only 6% of consumers use apps when researching travel plans and purchasing holidays and tickets. A whopping 89% of us turn to the web when planning getaways. As a result, The Huffington Post declared travel agents obsolete in 2010.

To help travelers making choices about hotels and destinations on-the-go, the Lonely Planet and Rough Guides mobile travel book apps are top picks. Other interesting options to check out include Travelocity‘s new app for iPhone and iPad, the GoExplore Canada iPhone app, TripIt to manage travel itineraries, UrbanSpoon to find good eats recommended by friends (now with photos!), and HappyHours to celebrate arriving at your destination with food and drink specials in your vicinity. Cheers.
